RISO Social x Sonja Burniston

Join us for our next Riso Social with Sonja Burniston, exploring themes of home during a residency at Ocean Studios. We’ll be writing prompts to explore the theme and experimenting with some collaborative printmaking.

About Sonja

Sonja is a collaborator, facilitator and visual communicator. Her main ways of working are screen printing and mural painting. In her narrative booklets, digital illustrations and fabric wall hangings she uses fluid shapes and bodies to communicate in warm nostalgic colours.

The things she finds important and that move her to create, centre around human emotion, connection and care. She celebrates softness, closeness and tenderness.

The generous, consistant and profound care in her female friendships has expanded her idea of what love is, and this is what she has been communicating in recent work. Making by hand, printmaking and sewing she feels she is able to embed the tenderness of these relationships into the physical works.
