About the Artist
Sally is an Artist/Illustrator who lives in Plymouth Devon but grew up in Salisbury. After gaining her degree in Illustration and Animation from Bristol UWE in 2009, Sally had a break from Illustrating and went on to work as Scenic Artist, working in Theatre, film and TV.
Her work has taken her overseas and all over the UK. It is from working in as scenic, often painting large scale cloths she developed her unique painting and drawing style.
“I work on a large paint frame where I stretch lengths of canvas, cotton or calico. I draw up my images with willow charcoal, using a dry brush and water mister I soften areas and add washes, over time I build layers and this denotes depth and distance. I often add a pop of colour either with a soft chalk pastel or acrylic. For my illustrations I then take high resolution photographs and add colour and pattern in Photoshop”
After moving from Bristol to Devon in 2018 Sally now has a studio at Ocean Studios in Plymouth’s historic Royal William Yard, here she creates her ethereal charcoal paintings on all thing’s animal and wildlife. Over the years Sally has sold her work and exhibited across the South West notably a solo show at Southampton Guildhall.
