Yan Feng’s creations are inspired by her observations of artistic and cultural exchanges between China and the West.

Biomimicry Fashion Lab means these series artworks which combining biomaterials with traditional handcrafts in fashion and textile field.

Yan Feng’s creations are inspired by her observations of artistic and cultural exchanges between China and the West, and thoughts on the sustainable development of the natural environment and intangible cultural heritage.

Through textile and fibre artworks, apparel products, installations and photography, concepts of sustainability are conveyed to the audience on a visual, tactile, and visceral level.

About

Yan Feng is a fashion and textile designer and artist, and is currently studying for a PhD in i-DAT.org (Year 3), at the University of Plymouth, UK. She graduated from University of the Arts London(Textile Design), Jiangnan University(Fine Arts)(China) with two Masters Degrees.

Her early research focused on the exchange of Chinese and Western dress culture and art, and the current phase explores the fusion of art and technology through experiments with biological materials for fabric design.

With more than ten years of experience in design and art creation in the field of fashion and textiles, her works have been awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals at international design competitions in China, the United States, and Singapore, and was invited to exhibit at the New York Fashion Week.

Her works have been exhibited in London, and in the near future will be exhibited in the UK Southwest Galleries, and Her work was selected for the Jiangsu Province 2023 Art & Design Biennale in China, with her designs being praised by specialists in the field, including experts from Tsinghua University in China, the China Artists Association, and the Design Alliance in Taiwan, where her work was selected from amongst 15899 entries in a recent international design competition. She has also published several SCI journal articles and have several patents in her research area.
