Description

Learn how to use commonly available shrub Cotinus to produce beautiful shades of blue on paper and fabric.

Discover the enchanting world of botanical printing like never before in our exclusive masterclass featuring the extraordinary Cotinus (Smoke Bush) plant.

If would like to introduce the beauty of nature and richness of its colours into your practice this masterclass workshop is a MUST for you.

The Cotinus plant is renowned for its distinctive foliage with smoky, ethereal hues and as well as the indigo plant it is one of the rare plants producing a blue hue.

In this one-of-a-kind masterclass, you’ll learn the secrets of extracting vivid, intricate patterns and vibrant colours from this remarkable botanical specimen.

Discover how this extraordinary plant’s natural pigments and textures can be harnessed to create stunning, eco-friendly prints that are as distinctive as the Cotinus itself.

Under the expert guidance of Ewa Morawski Ocean Studios’ printed textile resident artist, you’ll unlock the potential of Cotinus leaves, exploring various techniques to transfer their exquisite designs onto paper – the knowledge and the skills you can then transfer into fabric dying.

This immersive masterclass is a rare opportunity to connect with nature’s artistic ingenuity and acquire hands-on skills that you won’t find anywhere else.

Ewa Morawski is an internationally renowned artist and textile designer. She graduated from UAL: Chelsea College of Art with wide experience of designing, specialising in free motion machine embroidery.

In her textile design practice, Ewa experiments, applies and utilises various techniques such as: drawing, printing, collage, mixed media, and assemblage.

In recent years she mastered the art of botanical printing on paper and fabric and had become a guru in this field. She is continuously developing new samples and testing new methods, materials and processes, practically like an ‘art scientist’ in the lab.

She is inspired by her locality, exploring visual experiences of nature, textures, weathered surfaces, patterns and rust.

The reoccurring subjects in her artwork are trees, leaves, landscape, and life cycle.

All materials will be provided but please bring a notebook and pen to log your print samples.
